A sea creature hangs from a seven-by-four-meter stainless steel structure, like a mysterious prey caught at the end of a day of fishing. It is the outcome of a legendary animal hunt, pertaining to the imagery of the monstrous and the abject; a hybrid creature, the result of a genetic experiment.A monumental installation that weaves together the artist's personal history, her journey into gender transitioning; her relationship with the sea, mythology and her most recent research in the biomedical field.
Seven screens display images and videos related to the inner functions of the creature and its artificial birth in a genetic engineering laboratory. During three months of research in Naples, Agnes conducted a residency where she collected archival materials and wrote letters recounting the steps of her journey. Displayed inside the facility, these artifacts mark the irrefutable proof of the creature's existence.
Agnes represents both duality and conflict, a human being seeking her marine double, confined in a parallel and incompatible world. Invoking one another, fiction and science blur seamlessly. Within this entangled story, lies the impossibility of identity through the search for a mythological creature, an unknown hybrid.
